In "A Hitch Orchard", it states, "William Winder Hitch removed from Laurens Co., Nov. 1860. He went to Mississippi. He was able to educate the children by his first wife but the Civil War and his death shortly afterward prevented him educating the last three children. He was probably named for some reason not known to the compiler for William Winder (1714-1792) who resided in Maryland and married Esther Gillis (1726-1767)."

In the Federal Census of 1830, W.W. Hitch was listed in Laurens Township, Laurens Co., SC (page 255) in a household comprised of two males under age 5, one male age 20-30, one female age 5-10 and three females age 20-30.

On November 3, 1835, there appears the will of John McCoy with son Drayton McCoy; daughter Elizabeth; sons Barnett, Macajah and John, son-in-law John Fergerson and his daughter Eliza Alburton?; daughters Eliza Godfrey, Charity, and sons David, John and Macajah McCoy and John Fergerson executors. Witnesses were Jno. Hitch, W.W. Hitch and Nancy Hitch. Will was proven February 4, 1837.

W.W. Hitch was named magistrate for the Laurens District, SC on January 3, 1845 (Ref: The Greenville Mountaineer).

On October 5, 1846, W.W. Hitch performed wedding for Jesse Spark and Nancy McKittrick of Laurens. (The "Laurensville Herald")

In the Federal Census of 1850, W.W. Hitch was listed in Laurens Township, Laurens Co., SC (page 244) in a household as follows: - W.W. Hitch, age 48 - Arenath Hitch, age 40 - Arabella C. Hitch, age 26 - Benjamin F. Hitch, age 24 - Robert M. Hitch, age 18 - Nancy R. Hitch, age 16 - Ann E. Hitch, age 14 - Henry B. Hitch, age 7 months - Mary Bobo, age 79.

In the Federal Census of 1860, W.W. Hitch was listed in Tylersville Township, Laurens Co., SC (page 335) in a household as follows: - W.W. Hitch, age 58, born in SC - Arenith Hitch, age 48, born in SC - H.B. Hitch (male), age 10, born in SC - M.I. Hitch (female), age 8, born in SC - W.P. Hitch (male), age 6, born in SC.

William married Nancy Hunter, daughter of Matthew Hunter and Esther Hutchinson, on 13 Feb 1823.1 2 (Nancy Hunter was born on 02 Jun 1802 in SC,2 6 8 died on 06 Aug 1846 in Laurens Co., SC 9 10 and was buried about 09 Aug 1846 in Old Hitch Burying Grounds, Laurens Co., SC 10.)

From "A Hitch Orchard" by Daisy Hitch Davies (1932):

"Nancy Hunter died about 3:30 A.M. Again records do not agree. One states she is the daughter of Matthew Hunter and Esther Hutchinson. Another from the old Bible that she is the daughter of Matthew Hunter who died Feb. 1, 1822 and Nancy Hunter who died Oct. 9, 1807.

William Winder Hitch removed from Laurens Co., Nov. 1860. He went to Mississippi. William next married Asenith Bobo, daughter of Absalom Bobo and Mary Musgrove, on 02 Sep 1847 in SC.2 (Asenith Bobo was born on 24 Apr 1810 in SC 2 11 12 and died on 14 Dec 1887 2.)
