In the Federal census of 1850, Catherine Hitch is indicated in Laurens Township, Laurens County, SC (page 224) in household of Minister C.B. Stewart as follows: - Catherine Hitch, age 66.
Catherine Hitch's obituary states, "Died at her residence in this District of dropsy of the chest, produced from Rheumatism, Catharine Hitch, consort of John Hitch, deceased, aged 67 years, 9 months and 19 days. She leaves friends, four children, number of grandchildren . . . member of the Presbyterian Church." (Marriages & Deaths from Upper South Carolina Newspapers 1843-65; 1977, Southern Historical Press).
