Was a doctor in SC.

In the Federal Census of 1850, J. Wesley Hitch is indicated in Laurens Township, Laurens County, SC in household of Henry Pitts (page 317) as J. Wesley Hitch, age 22, school teacher.

In the "Laurensville Herald" newspaper of August 11, 1854, a, article states that "while sitting (on July 2, 1854 at about 2:45 p.m.) and conversing on the plaza of Mr. James Swann in Newton Co., Georgia, Dr. J.W. Hitch, William Wilson, and Isaac Christian were instantly killed by a stroke of lightning. Dr. Hitch was the second son of W.W. Hitch of Laurens District, South Carolina, age 26 years."
