Mary* Phillips

*This wife of Randall Smullen, Mary, is an uncertain daughter of John Phillips who died testate in 1762. We know from the disbursement of his estate that Nathaniel Smullen received a legacy "in the right of his wife." This would be Nathaniel Smullen who married Sarah Phillips. But John Phillips also left land WOLF PIT RIDGE to his grandson Nathaniel Smullen. This compiler has no record of a Nathaniel Smullen, s/o Nathaniel and Sarah Smullen.

There is, however, a younger Nathaniel born c1741 who is s/o Randall and Mary Smullen. Did another of John Phillips' daughters (say, a Mary) also marry a Smullen (Randall) which accounts for John's legacy to GRANDSON Nathaniel? Or, did Nathaniel and Sarah (Phillips) Smullen have a son Nathaniel who died young or moved away and does not show up otherwise in the records? The latter may be the most likely scenario but just wanted to raise the unlikely possibility.

Mary* married Randall Smullen Jr., son of Randall Smullen Sr. and Sarah Harris, about 1737 in Somerset Co., MD. (Randall Smullen Jr. was born in 1717-1718 in Somerset Co., MD and died after 03 Nov 1790 in Worcester Co., MD.)
