On Jun 6 1837, the Somerset County Orphans Court Proceedings state, "Jane Hitch, administrator of Littleton Hitch" (Ibid:355). On Apr 3 1838, the Somerset County Orphans Court Proceedings state, "Orphan: John T. and Joshua L. Hitch (of Littleton) - Appointed Guardian: Jane Hitch - Sureties: William S. Dashiell, Elisha Owens" (Ibid:381) The same records state, for Apr 24 1838, "Jane Hitch, administrator of Littleton Hitch" (Ibid:384)
On Sep 8 1840, the Somerset County Orphans Court Proceedings state, "Examination of account of Jane Hitch, guardian to John T. and Joshua L. Hitch, orphans." (SoOCP-1840:83)
In the Somerset County Assessment Ledger for 1841-1852, Jane Hitch is indicated in the Election District 3 ledger and listed as: Jane Hitch, widow, 1841: - To Emma (age 24), Hester (age 4): $280 - To 1 cow, 1 bed, etc., other: $25 Total: $305 (SoTax-1841/52:56)
In the Federal Census of 1850, Jane Hitch is indicated in the Tyaskin District, Somerset County, Maryland (page 554) in a household as follows: - Jane Hitch, age 44 - Joshua L. Hitch, age 13 - Sally Graham, age 72, $3,200 in real estate All born in Maryland.
In her will probated on April 2, 1852, Sarah Graham bequeathed to Joshua Hitch 100 acres of land of Sarah Graham's Quantico farm. The record also, it mentions Sarah Graham's daughters Jane Hitch, Leah A. Hopkins and Sarah A. Hopkins. (Abstracts of Somerset Co. Wills)
