Note that this William L. Elliott is distinctly different than another William L. Elliott (1823-1900) in contemporary Sussex Co, DE. Both were married on the same day as well!
In 1870, William Elliott is indicated as working in a sawmill with $400 worth of real estate and $150 personal estate. In 1880, he is a laborer in Delmar, MD and he cannot read or write. It seems as if he moved his family from Delaware to Delmar, Maryland c1871.
In 1900, William is listed as a day laborer while wife Amelia ran a boarding house in Delmar, MD. There were six boarders at the time including 4 railroad workers, a salesman and a jeweler. There was also a servant in the household.
William married Amelia Jane Gordy, daughter of William L. Gordy and Elizabeth (Betty) Hastings, on 18 Dec 1856 in Sussex Co., DE.1 2 (Amelia Jane Gordy was born on 25 Jan 1837 in Sussex Co., DE,8 9 10 11 12 died on 01 Jan 1907 in Sussex Co., DE and was buried about 04 Jan 1907 in St. Stephen's Cemetery, State Street, Delmar, Sussex Co., DE.)
