This line needs some more research. We know that Sovereign Hitch was in Sussex Co., DE in 1830 and then in Caroline Co., MD in 1840 from Census records. We also know that he had a son born between 1826 and 1830 from those same records, that we cannot ascertain his name. However, we also know that this Joshua Hitch was living in Caroline Co., MD in 1870 and that he was married in Kent Co., DE in 1854. Since only Sovereign, Garey and Spencer Hitch were known to be living in the Caroline Co., MD/Kent Co., DE area in the 1830/1840 timeframe AND since Garey and Spencer did not have UNKNOWN sons that could be the right age, this Joshua was speculatively determined to be the youngest son of Sovereign Hitch of MD/DE.
In the Federal Census of 1870, Joshua Hitch is listed in the 2nd District of Caroline Co., MD (household 88) as follows: - Joshua Hitch, age 40, born in DE - Elizabeth Hitch, age 38, born in DE - Mary E. Hitch, age 15, born in MD - Britanne Hitch, age 13, born in MD - Sarah Hitch, age 11, born in MD - Elizabeth Hitch, age 5, born in MD
Joshua* married Elizabeth Callaway, daughter of Levin Callaway and Elizabeth Nichols, on 22 Nov 1854 in Kent Co., DE.1 (Elizabeth Callaway was born on 07 Aug 1832 in Kent Co., DE,3 4 died on 06 Feb 1925 in Linwood, Delaware Co., PA 3 and was buried on 07 Feb 1925 in Greensboro Cemetery, Greensboro, Caroline Co., MD.)
