  Notes:

Sophia Hitch is listed several times in the Sussex County Guardian Accounts - first for the account of Clement Hitch, minor son of Spencer Hitch, deceased for date Jan 2 1798. Then, she is listed for Spencer's son Elgate Hitch, the record not being dated and Polly Hitch, daughter of Spencer for the date Dec 29 1813. Finally, for the account of Spencer Hitch, son of Spencer Hitch for the date Dec 29 1814, record witnessed by William Hitch. All of these children were minors on the respective dates given. This may indicate that Spencer Hitch's other children were not minors at the time he died in 1797. (SxGA)

In the 1800 Federal Census, "Sophire" Hitch is indicated on page 350 in Sussex County with a household including two males under age 10, one male age 10-16, two females age 16-26 and one female age 45+.

In the 1801 Tax Assessment records for Sussex County, "Sopiah" Hitch is listed in Northwest Fork Hundred with: 2 horses 1 cow and calf 3 young cattle 2 sows and pigs 4 sheep (SxTA-1801)

In the 1803 Tax Assessment records for Sussex County, "Zophiah" Hitch is listed in Northwest Fork Hundred with: 130a of land 2 horses 1 colt 2 cows and calves 3 young cattle 1 sows and pigs 8 sheep 8 shoats (SxTA-1803)

In the Sussex County, Delaware Tax Assessment List for 1803 and 1804, "Zophiah" Hitch is listed in Northwest Fork Hundred with 130 acres of land and 27 livestock.

In the 1807 Tax Assessment records for Sussex County, Sophia Hitch is listed in Northwest Fork Hundred with: 2 horses 1 cow 2 cows and calves 8 sheep 1 sow and 7 shoats (SxTA-1807)

In the 1809 Tax Assessment records for Sussex County, Sophia Hitch is listed in Northwest Fork Hundred with: 130a of land 1 horse 4 cows and calves 1 sows and pigs 14 shoats (SxTA-1809)

She is not found in Sussex County tax records after 1809.
