*There is a slight uncertainty of Dorothy Hitch's parentage but, based upon acquaintances and the location she lived, she is certainly of the Benjamin Hitch (1739/40-1814) lineage; and likely a daughter of his son Robert. However, she may have been a daughter of Thomas A. Hitch (of John of Benjamin). However, she is not listed in the distribution of Robert's account in 1828, but neither is known daughter Julia (Hitch) Stewart. Julia Stewart is, however, listed as an heir to Robert in a Jun 1849 land transaction conveying land Robert Hitch had bought in his lifetime to Alexander Hastings (Dorothy's 2nd husband) by Julia A. Stewart and John Fields with Matilda his wife "heirs of Robert Hitch" (SoLR-WP4:127,128). Dorothy Hitch is not a "proven" daughter of Robert Hitch but the probability is extremely high at greater than 95%.

In her will written May 31 1872 and probated Jul 30 1872, Dorothy W. Hastings left Robert J. Hitch five acres of land in Upper Trappe known as "Hitch's Lott". Robert J. Hitch was instructed to pay $30 for it to William J. Bounds. Also mentions daughters Esther Bounds, Charlotte Ewell and Susan E. Hastings. Witnesses were Levin B. Price, Elisha Simms, and William J. Twilley (WiW-WB1:92) [NOTE: Robert J. Hitch would be Dorothy Hasting's nephew whose father predeceased him and his mother died when he was ~21 years old.]
