Augustus Simpson Hutchinson
Augustus S. Hutchinson's Civil War service is kept at the National Archives. It states that he enlisted as a Private with Company C of the 19th AR Regiment on Oct 19 1861 in Pike Co. The records show he was captured on Jan 11 1863 and became a POW where he was sent to Camp Chase on Jan 30 1863, then to St. Louis. He is described as 5'-10" tall, 25 years old, blue eyes, dark hair, fair complexion. He was then sent to Ft. Delaware on Apr 10 1863 and on to City Point for exchange Apr 29 1863. Augustus married Ella Ozella (?) about 1869. (Ella Ozella (?) was born on 11 Apr 1849,5 died on 17 Nov 1881 in AR and was buried about 20 Nov 1881 in Ione Cemetery, Pike Co., AR.) Augustus next married Susan Virginia Purdom about 1883. (Susan Virginia Purdom was born on 11 Nov 1849 in AR,6 died on 07 Oct 1928 in AR and was buried about 10 Oct 1928 in Nashville Cemetery, Howard Co., AR.) |
