The following obituary for William Hitch was sent to me as an E-Mail attachment on July 11, 1999 from Barbara Hitch of Edwardsville, IL:

White Hall Register-Republican Friday, July 25, 1924

William Hitch passed away at the home of his sister, Mrs. Humbolt Patterson, of Hillview Friday about 5 a.m., where he had been making his home the past two months on account of his condition. Mr. Hitch was a life long resident of Drake and had been in very poor health for several years with asthma and kidney trouble. He was a good neighbor and had many good friends that were very sorry for him in his great affliction and all that skilled physicians and loving hands could to were done for him, and while he bore his afflictions was cheerful, although a great sufferer. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. by Rev. John Alexander. Interment in Pine Tree cemetery. Sympathy is extended to all his relatives.

William has been a sufferer for may moths, bearing his afflictions with great patience, exercising his faith in God and prayed many times for the hour of his departure from this world of suffering. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock by Rev John Alexander, at the Patterson Baptist Church, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Pine Tree Cemetery.
