S. F. M. Hitch

Solomon F. M. Hitch was born in Wilmington, Greene County, Illinois, December 30, 1843, and died at his home near Drake, about one mile from the place of his birth, April 20, 1909, aged 66 years, 3 months and 20 days. On the 20th day of March, 1867, he and Cyliniria Cotter were married. Five children were born to them, three of whom are still living, the other two dying in infancy. the living children are, William J., and George E. of Patterson and Stella B. wife of F. H. Patterson of Hillview. He is also survived by his wife. One brother William P. Hitch of Patterson are left by him. Mr. Hitch was an industrious, quiet, good natured man. He attended strictly to his own business and never meddled in the affairs of others. He had a large number of friends but no enemies. He will be greatly missed, not only the members of his family, but by his neighbors. Funeral services were held at the Patterson church Thursday, April 22, 1909. Rev. T. N. Marsh of Upper Alton, conducting the services. The interment was in the Martin cemetery east of Patterson. There was a large attendance at both the funeral services and burial.
