Samuel Ingersoll seems to have arrive in the Worcester Co. (now Wicomico), MD area about 1766 when he purchased part of the tract LONG ACRE from Isaac Roach on Jun 4 of that year. This tract lies just east of modern Fruitland, MD (WoLR-F:487). He MAY have come from the Ingersoll's in Massachusetts as naming conventions seem to fit - that needs more research.
Samuel Ingersoll had the tract LONG CHANCE surveyed for him in Worcester Co., MD (now Wicomico) on Sep 9 1766 for 36a. This land is now on the ENE outskirts of the town limits of Fruitland, MD. On Oct 28 1767, he had it resurveyed up to 65a - it was described as having 3a of cultivated land, 123 panels of old fence and 20 peach trees. On Jan 29 1773, he sold 8a of the tract to Henry Toadvine. (WoLR-I:206). On May 4 1771 He purchased 50a of DORMANS CHANCE and 58a of WINDERS ADDITION from George McGlamary and William Winder (of Somerset) for £60 (WoLR-H:568)
On Nov 16 1771, Samuel Ingersoll had the tract CHANCE surveyed for 193 1/4 acres in Worcester (modern Wicomico) - it is located north of modern Toadvine Road near the Holly Center. It is described as having his dwelling house 20x16 not finished, 8 ft shed to side of it, old barn 20x16, one old house 15x13, two 16x6 corn houses, 100 apple trees, 100 ac cultivated land under fence almost worn out. The soil is of white sand timbered mostly w. small pines and scrub oaks. On the same day, he had the adjacent tract SUPPORT surveyed for him for 213a - Both of these tract are described as being in the Manor of Wicomico.
On Oct 26 1773, he had the tracts GREAT LOT and SMALL LOT surveyed for him for 27a and 8a, respectively - these are both on the E side of modern Fruitland, MD.
On Nov 17 1773, he had the 55a tract GREEN BRIAR surveyed for him. This one is also in modern Wicomico but out Snow Hill Road to the SE a couple of miles.
On Jul 30 1788, the witnesses of the will of Samuel Ingersoll were examined; Peggy Smith, Susannah Smith, Ebenezer Hazey, John Leatherbury, Mary Abbott and Betty Rencher. Richard Ingersoll, administrator, requested the will to be proven but the Justices ruled that it had been cancelled by the deceased.
On Jun 8 1790, John Ingersoll of Samuel was listed as age 14+ and chose William James as his guardian.
On Aug 9 1791, Richard was told to pay the estate of John Ingersoll to William James (John's guardian). (SoOCP-1777/92:089, 095, 101) (See also SoAA-EB16:244 and Ibid:449)
