William was listed as head of household in Nanticoke Hundred, Somerset Co. MD in 1756, 1757, 1759. Stepney Parish records show he was born Jan 28 1741/2 to Patrick Stuart and wife Emma Chapman.

See Deed Huffington to Adams in SxLR-AB25:526 where it describes William Stewart as eldest son of Doctor Patrick Stewart.

On Jan 10 1786, William Stuart as son and heir to Doctor Patrick Stewart, late of Somerset County, physician, sold land in Sussex County (noted as formerly Worcester Co., MD) to George Adams for a 500a Virginia land warrant. It was for the tract BROTHERS AGREEMENT on the Nanticoke River. Note this land is near Concord, DE where William Stuart's children owned lands. It is also noted that this land was willed to his father by Arnold Elzey.

In the records, he is referred to as a shipwright.
