Ephraim Adams Denston
- Born: Abt 1772, Somerset Co., MD
- Marriage (1): Sarah (Sally) Layfield on 03 Oct 1798 in Somerset Co., MD 1
- Died: 1821-1839, Somerset Co., MD
The parentage of Ephraim Denston is proven by land records as land went from William Denston to Ephraim. On Oct 12 1790 and relisted on Apr 12 1791, it lists Ephraim Denston as over age 14 and assigned guardianship to Isaac Adams Denston. Since he sells land in 1794, that would suggest he reached age 21 at that time (see below). This would place Ephraim's approximate birth year at 1771-1773.
On Apr 22 1794 Ephraim Denston sells to Samuel Banks for 60 pounds, 66a of "First Choice" and 35a of "Misfortune" (SoLR-I:677, 678). On Jul 24 1798, Ephraim Adams Denston sells 66a of "First Choice" to Samuel Banks for 60 pounds (SoLR-L:261).
In the Somerset Direct Tax of 1798, Ephraim Denston (as Denson) is occupant of a house owned by John Fleming, an 18' x 18', one story dwelling in Dividing Creek Hundred.
On Jun 22 1801, Samuel Banks becomes bound to Ephraim Denston for 140 pounds mortgage against land "First Choice" (SoLR-N:228). On Nov 14 1804, Ephraim Adams Denston and Samuel Banks sell 67a of land "First Choice" to Thomas Brown for 42 pounds, 15 shillings (SoLR-P:459, this is land that Isaac Denston had surveyed for him in 1754 as is north and west of the modern day location of old Friendship Church). On May 4 1811, Ephraim A. Denston buys 12a of "Morefield" and "Belvedere" from Elias Robertson for $100 (SoLR-U:157). On May 1 1819, Ephraim Denson sold to Elias Robertson for $300, 12.75a land in "Evans Second Chance", his wife Sally Denson confirmed (SoLR-JD4:336-7). On Dec 23 1819, Ephraim Denson sold land for $100 to Samuel Robertson, 15a part of "Moorefields" (SoLR-JD5:498, 499).
In the 1820 Census, Ephraim Denson is listed with household as 320001-100210, he seems to be in the Upper Trappe area of Somerset Co. suggesting he was born prior to 1775. By 1840, Ephraim A. Denston is listed as 1000110000000-1000100000000, suggesting that this Ephraim (1840 and age 30-40) is really the son of Ephraim from 1820 and that the father may have died after 1820 but before 1840 (there is no 1830 extant census for Somerset Co. to narrow it further).
Ephraim married Sarah (Sally) Layfield on 03 Oct 1798 in Somerset Co., MD.1 (Sarah (Sally) Layfield was born about 1782 in Somerset Co., MD 2 and died after 1860 in Somerset Co., MD.)
