James Ludy Templeton
James L. Templeton (1837-1863) was born in Laurens County and one of three Templeton brothers who became part of the 3rd South Carolina Infantry. He enlisted there as a Private on Apr 14 1861 for 12 months with Company A and mustered in at Columbia, SC on Jun 6 1861. On May 13 1862, after his initial 12 month hitch was over, he reenlisted for 2 years. Later that year, on Dec 13 1862, he was gravely wounded at the Battle of Fredericksburg and sent to the hospital in Charlottesville, VA. He never recovered from his wounds and died at the hospital on May 30 1863. He is buried in the Rocky Springs Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Laurens County, SC where the inscription on his tombstone states; Mortally wounded at Fredericksburg, VA, on Dec 13 1862. |
