He achieved a rank of Capt. by the 1740s and is still as such in the 1754 Somerset Tax List. Posthumously, he was referred to Major by the time of his death in 1757.
Will of Day Scott MdW-30:356 SoW-EB4:058 17 Jun 1753 17 Aug 1757 Wicomico Wicomico -To George Day Scott , son, plantation where I now live called GREEN HILL being part of a tract called SUNKEN GROUND beginning at the mouth of Hasts or Johnson's Creek running down the river to the mouth of Taylors Hill gut and up the gut and ditch to the mouth of Russells Branch then up the branch to a marked gum tree being the corner of a tract conveyed from Col. Gale thence along the line of the land conveyed to the main road that leads from my house to the Lower Ferry and up the road to the bridge at the head of Marshes gut then down the gut to the other bridge and down the gut called Marshes to the mouth. Also, Tract of land and plantation "where my Father lived, the Plantation known by the name of the "Lowhouse Plantation" conveyed by Col. Gale be sold to pay debts due to Col. Ennals as the Lands are under a mortgage to Ennals -To George Dashiell, Sr., 50 ac of land to be taken out of the corner of the tract adjoining to Calloway's tree called LAST CHOICE to cover a note to Dashiell -To Betty Fortune, tract of land on which she now lives cont. 50 ac upon her paying the balance on a book debt due the testator for the land. -To John Shiles, Sr., two Negro children "Morrah" and "Nanny" for his safety in the discharge of debt Executors to have the power to alienate the 3 plantations called "Greenhill" or to recover them. Any overages of the sales after debts settled to be divided among children and Sophia Scott "Provided the said Sophia Scott relinquishes the bond now in Mr. Adams hands and no charge to be brought against my Estate by hur living with me for as much as I make no charge against her for any thing." Executors: friends Robert Jenkins Henry and Isaac Handy, Sr. Witnesses: Andrew Francis Cheney, Benoni Wheeldon. Codicil: mulatto Sam to be manumitted and his value paid to those having a claim on him.
