THIS WAS COMMENTARY OF THIS COMPILER'S FIRST FORAY INTO THE DAY SCOTT LINE: Land where the old Green Hill Town and Church lie in Wicomico County, MD: The tract that encompassed Green Hill - it is called THE SUNKEN GROUND and originally surveyed for James Jones, planter, in 1677 for 500 acres. John put a lot of the deed progression of all the tracts up to about the Revolution so you can see the old Somerset Deed references there.
The Day family, thru Edward Day, first acquired it in 1694 for 9000 lbs of tobacco, and it looks like Mary Day (widow) has it in 1706 (she is likely Edward's wife) then she passes 149.5a of it to George Scott, for £15 sterling, in 1714. I wonder if there was a familial relationship there - likely that the Day's had a daughter who married George Scott and that is why he got the sweet deal on the 149.5a purchase. In 1716, there is a deed for 350 ac of the tract from William Rownd, merchant of Stepney Parish, and wife Mary Round (this likely William Round and Mary Day Round as she remarried to Round in 1714-1716) selling to Abraham Turner where it states "all parts except that sold to George Scott and all what lots have been taken up and built upon in Green Hill Town." INTERESTING. But it says later that Day Scott owned all 500a by 1734.
Between 1753 and 1755, Day Scott (Assume he is a s/o George Scott?) sold everything out of the family. BUT, the 1755 transaction for 392a involved Day Scott, gentleman, providing Thomas Williams, gentleman, with a mortgage on the property. Something happened, evidently Williams not paying the mortgage that George Day Scott (eldest son and heir to Day Scott) reacquired the land in 1761 from Williams (Day Scott having died in 1757. George Day Scott also seems to have acquired the balance of the property in the tract (or most of it) in 1775 from a John Taylor of Caroline County. John puts not more deeds in as this is the latest up to the Revolution. But it seems that George Day Scott owned 392a plus whatever he bought from Taylor in 1775.
In 1783 it says that John Holbrook owns 250a and George D. Scott 368a (sic, because there was only 500a to be had).
Surmising that the original Edward Day and wife Mary Day had a daughter (?) Day that married George Scott and named their son Day Scott - his name MAY have also been George Day Scott Sr. Whatever, George Scott had son Day Scott who had son George Day Scott here.
George married Mary* Day, daughter of Edward Day and Jane (Mary) Coppinhall, about 1700 in Somerset Co., MD. (Mary* Day was born on 15 Jan 1682 in Somerset Co., MD.)
