George Dashiell son of Thomas Dashiell borne of Elizabeth his wife the 31th day of January one thousand six hundred & ninety. In the Somerset Tax Lists, he is indicated as Major in 1734 and Colonel in 1736 (no 1735 listing)
George Dashiell will written 09 May 1748 and proven in Somerset 14 Nov 1748: To son Clement Dashiell: Negroes Phillis and Nann. To son Luther Dashiell: Negro man Frank. To son Isaac Dashiell: the land where he now lives, between Back Creek and the land of his brother Luther Dashiell and to include the New Quarter where Pollie now lives thence up Back Creek and branch, 450 ac of DASHIELLS LOT To son Thomas Dashiell: land my father made over to me by deed of 24 Dec 1731, on the south side of Great Monie Creek, being the place where my father now lives, MITCHELLS IMPROVEMENT, any part of the personal estate that may be my rights that now belongs to my loving father. If Thomas does not receive anything then it is to be his full share of the personal estate. To son Benjamin Dashiell: land left to Thomas should Thomas die without heirs before the age of 21. Lands I may be heir to by the death of my father (if I should be the longest liver); to be divided with Thomas. CONTENTION, alienated by Lowe and his wife Jane and now called WOOD PASTURE, 95 ac of CONTENTION, land on the north side of Great Monie where my pasture now is, 116 ac SATISFACTION, also, land lying between the land of John Christopher and Robert Malone, TURKEY RIDGE, negroes Harry, Young Jane, Isabel and Daniel. To son Joseph Dashiell: land alienated by William Kibble and John Kibble, RIVER LANDING, which was 80 ac of BOTTOM OF THE NECK, the marsh against Green Hill Church, 50 ac DASHIELLS MEADOW, land made over by William Gray where Gray now lives, in Worcester County, 100 ac LOT, land in Worcester County near Lodowick's Savannah, 135 ac SUMMER PASTURE, negroes Robin, Sambo, Negro woman Tamer. To youngest son George Dashiell: plantation where I now live, beginning at the bounder of DASHIELLS LOTT and to the westernmost side of Back Creek up the westward side of the creek and branch to a line by the New Quarter where Pollie now lives dividing it from the land of Isaac Dashiell and thence. . .part of DASHIELLS LOT, The above tract of land to pass to eldest son [land to follow along lines of primogeniture]. If George dies without heirs, land to Benjamin; if Benjamin dies without heirs, then to Joseph. Land to be kept in my Family=s Bones in the possession of the name of Dashiell. Negroes Peggie, Appie, Lodee, Little Sambo, Vilett and Abed, but if my little dear boy George should die before he comes of age to receive the same in the life of his mother, then my widow is to dispose of Negroes among children and grandchildren as she sees fit. Large silver tankard soup spoon, 12 silver spoons, one pair of silver candlesticks with snuffers and pan. To granddaughter Mary Dashiell (daughter of Clement Dashiell), negro girl Ester. Black mare, bridle, saddle, 6 large silver spoons, 12 tea spoons, and a pair of silver tea tongs with all the chinaware of any sort. One- third part of the personal estate after debts and legacies and with no other part of the land other than the dwelling house. Remainder of estate to be divided among children. Care of the boys until they arrive at the age which they can choose their own guardians. To daughter Eleanor Martin, negroes Hope and, Martha and Rose, Will and Pollie already given to her. To Ann Dashiell (granddaughter): her father's boom Betty, Flora, Frankie, Penny, Rachel, Little Frank, Solomon and as much of the other things my personal estate including her father's estate left her as will make, 400 currency in value, the negroes being valued by two men on oath.
