Moved to Bartholomew Co., Indiana in 1854. From find-a-grave, we see that they lost three children in 1862 to the "flux." Three siblings all died of "flux," about 1862 in Brown Co., Indiana. Flux was a 19th century term for severe diarrhea, most likely from some contagious illness. Their cause of death in contemporary terms would have been dehydration. Sarah married Rev. Henry Martindale Smith on 19 Oct 1836 in Sussex Co., DE.1 2 (Rev. Henry Martindale Smith was born on 14 Dec 1809 in Sussex Co., DE,4 died on 23 Aug 1874 in IN and was buried about 26 Aug 1874 in Garland Brook Cemetery, Columbus, Bartholomew Co., IN 2.) |
