|Frances (Frankey) Goslee
(Abt 1780-Bef 1820)
Frances (Frankey) Goslee
- Born: Abt 1780, Somerset Co., MD
- Marriage (1): William Malone on 05 Nov 1799 in Somerset Co., MD 1
- Died: Bef 1820, Somerset Co., MD
A Jan 13 1806 deed (SoLR-Q:122) states that she and her sister were dividing land formerly owned by Samuel Goslee. At first glance, that seems to suggest they are his daughters. More digging proves otherwise. It seems Frances Goslee is not daugther of Samuel, rather she was his sister. Her parents were Joseph and Priscilla Goslee. She was affectionately known as "Frankey" Goslee to her family as she is identified as such in two places. The first is in the will of Joseph Goslee written 1791 and probated 1795 where he leaves his daughter Frankey Goslee her a slave and a mare. He also leaves his "eldest son" Samuel all his land (SoW-EB17:375).
Then, it turns out that Samuel died sometime before 1804 and we find in his admin account where his personal estate is divided amongst his brothers and sisters. One of the sisters is explicitly indicated as "Franky Malone" (SoAA-EB27:005). So Samuel died as a bachelor and his estate reverted back to his siblings (the admin acct only covers his personal estate but his land would revert back to them as well since he left no will). There is NO doubt that this is the Frances Goslee who married William Malone in 1799! The deed from 1806 was land they inherited from Samuel Goslee who was their brother - not their father.
It appears Franky Malone died prior to 1840 as William Malone has no females in his household of an age old enough to be her. Plus, in 1820, there are no mature females in the household so she may have died prior to 1820.
Frances married William Malone, son of Robert Malone II and Anne Stevens Kibble, on 05 Nov 1799 in Somerset Co., MD.1 (William Malone was born on 09 Jun 1777 in Somerset Co., MD 2 and died in 1850-19 May 1852 in Somerset Co., MD.)
