Was twin of Joshua Buswell Hitch. Appears he was buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs in 1916 and moved back to Massachusetts in December 1929.
From "A Hitch Orchard", Daisy Hitch Davies, 1931: William Gould Hitch was born in MA. probably Fairhaven. He was married in Haverhill, MA. to a very beautiful young widow. He went west and died in Colorado Springs, CO. For many years lived in or near Sedalia, CO. He was buried in Colorado Springs but his body was brought back to Massachusetts several years later and buried Jan. 2, 1930 in his father's plot (Plot #46, section 120 Riverside Cemetery, Fairhaven, MA.) Five generations are buried in this plot. His son William Gould Hitch Jr. making the fifth.
His mother died when he was not quite nine years old. He attended high school. When grown he was for a time a book-keeper and while in the west worked on a railroad. He was very thin and about six feet two inches tall. He was given to gaiety but well liked and made friends. The name "William Gould" was for a minister of whom the family was very fond. This pastor's little daughter is buried in his father's plot. Since his mother's aunt married a Rev. William Gould, in whose family she may have resided after the death of her own mother when she was about a year old; it may be the same one for whom he was named and would be his great uncle by marriage.
