On March 23, 1889, Alice and Lucy Hitch bought 3 acres plus 10 acres of property from John Hitch. The property was a house and lot at the corner of Spring Hill road and the road leading to the Crockett farm bordered by the Phillips land now farmed by Esther Dashiell (This is the 3 acre plot). The 10 acre plot is land opposite bordered by Daniel Hearn and Albert Covington. At the death of Alice/Lucy, land to revert to John Hitch. (Wicomico Co. Land Records, Liber FMS NO. 4, Folio 454). Also on this date, Alice Hitch sold 64 acres of land for $700 to John Hitch. The land was a tract called "Mcclenal" and is same as that she purchased from Ezekiel Hitch on November 20, 1888. (Ibid., Liber FMS NO. 4, Folio 453)

On December 11, 1889, John HITCH received deed for land from Levin M. Wilson. Land was called "The Western Fields" in Barren Creek District adjoining land formerly owned by Joshua W. Phillips and part of same land purchased by Wilson from Samuel A. Graham, trustee of Charlotte Hughes. Land borders old Railroad at a stone where the County Road crosses that leads form Barren Creek Springs to Spring Hill. (Ibid., Liber FMS No. 7, Folio 357)

On January 1, 1890, John Hitch sold land for $75 to Harry Austin. Land was all of "The Western Field" and is part of same land Hitch purchased from Lemuel M. Wilson on December 11, 1889. The record mentions it borders land that John Hitch purchased from his father Ezekiel Hitch and Sarepta Hitch. (Ibid., Liber FMS NO. 7, Folio 399)

On August 3, 1891, John and Maggie Hitch entered a mortgage to Salisbury Permanent Building & Loan Association for $300 to pay for 3 shares of stock. The Hitches put up collateral of 64 acres of land one mile north of the Spring Hill road bounded by lands of Davis Phillips, Sephen Mills, Daniel Fooks (formerly Daniel Hearn), and John Hughes. This is same land that John Hitch purchased from Alice Hitch on March 3, 1889. (Ibid., Liber FMS8, Folio 18)

On April 18, 1892, John Hitch was indebted for $100 to George W.D. Waller. Collateral was a horse, Earle, a six-year old sired by Rob Roy and purchased from Henry J. Howard; one Alderney cow, Jewell, six years old; one Jersey cow, Sallie, 8 years old, purchased of A.S. Venables; and one leather top carriage purchased of Thomas W. Seabrease. Note was payable in one year (April 18, 1893). (Ibid., Liber FMS8, Folio 427)

In the Federal Census of 1900, John Hitch was indicated in a household in District 1 (Barren Creek), Wicomico County, Maryland (ED160, sheet 16, line 42) as follows: - John Hitch, born 7/1858 in MD - Maggie V. Hitch, born 10/1852, in MD - George Kellsin, born 7/1884* in MD - Clarence Horsey, born 3/1885* in MD *both are relationship "Sl"

In the Federal Census of 1910, John Hitch was indicated in a household in Barren Creek District, Wicomico County, Maryland as follows: - John Hitch, age 51, general farmer, born in MD (parents born in MD) - Maggie V. Hitch, age 57, born in DE (parents born in DE) They were indicated as being married for 20 years.

In the Federal Census of 1920, John Hitch was indicated in a household in Wicomico County, Maryland as follows: - John Hitch, age 61 (or 69), born in MD - Maggie V. Hitch, age 69, born in MD - Caroline Phillips, age 90, born in MD

In a Maryland Death Certificate, John Hitch was shown as born on July 29, 1858 and died September 4, 1923, age 65 years, 1 month and 6 days, of "chronic myocarditis. He was a farmer and was buried in Mardela Springs on September 6, 1923. His parents were Ezekiel and Sarepta (Crockett) Hitch.
