George "Boots" W. Grandel, Jr., age 95 of Newark, died on June 5, 2013 at Christiana Hospital.
Mr. Grandel was a graduate of P.S. DuPont High School. He worked for Sears for 33 years before retiring. He later worked at the DuPont Company for 7 years. Mr. Grandel was a member of First and Central Presbyterian Church for over 70 years. In recent years, he joined Ebenezer Methodist Church. He was a member and Past Master of Ionic Lodge #31 A.F. & A.M.; he was also a member of the High Noon Lodge #38 A.F. & A.M. and the Lions Club. He was a founder of the Sears Retirees Club and served as its second president. In his spare time, he enjoyed coin collecting, drawing, painting, woodworking, and traveling.
Mr. Grandel was predeceased by his first wife Dorothy Blackburn Grandel, who died on July 5, 1999. He is survived by his son Edward B. Grandel and wife Suzanne of Wilmington, grandson Troy E. Grandel and wife Jessica of Newark, and great grandchildren Katharine, Eileen, Sam, and David. He is also survived by his sister Dora Gray and brother Harry T. Grandel. He was also predeceased by his sister Mildred Downes and his second wife Louise Bates.
His family will greet friends on Thursday, June 13, 2013 from 10 AM until the time of services at 11:00 AM at Chandler Funeral Home, 7230 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 92 Read's Way, New Castle, DE 19720.
