WILMINGTON - Edward Blackburn Grandel of Wilmington, Delaware passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2022, at the age of 81. After several months of declining health, Eddie passed peacefully of natural causes.

Eddie was born in Wilmington, Delaware in 1940, to father George William Grandel, Jr. and mother Dorothy Irene Grandel. He graduated from Conrad High School and later attended the University of Delaware. He helped his family by working any odd jobs he could find starting at an early age. His work ethic and desire to take care of his family led to him serve over 23 years at Atlantic Aviation as an estimator and specification writer.

As a lifelong game player, Eddie took his passion to the biggest challenge by designing an international play by mail game, Galactic Prisoners, which he then ran for 12 years. His love for family shines throughout with subtle references to landmark people and moments from his life. His love for board games was only surpassed by his creative passions. He was always onto the next new painting, next new creation. His love of the arts never dimmed, but grew deeper with each project.

Eddie is survived by his wife Suzanne May Grandel; son Troy Edward Grandel and his wife Jessica; grandchildren Katharine Myong Hui Grandel, Eileen Moon Hui Grandel, Samuel Troy Grandel, David Yulong Grandel along with his wife Cindy and son Lucas, and Leona Lee Vergantino and her daughter Nalani and son Ryder; and cat Riley Grandel.

A visitation for Eddie is planned for Saturday, March 19, 2022, from 10 am to 11 am at the Chandler Funeral Home at 7230 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE 19707. All are invited to attend. The funeral will follow immediately afterwards at Gracelawn Memorial Park at 2220 N. Dupont Highway, Wilmington, DE 19720.

People wishing to honor Eddie's lifelong commitment and love of animals can make donations to the Delaware SPCA. Please make all contributions online and email giving@delspca.org for any giving-related questions.
