He had three sisters, Minnie Carter Scott, Mildred Elizabeth Fisher, and Fannie Alverta Hayman. Mr. Bryan retired in 1964 after 32 1/2 years as a plant supervisor for Continental Can Company (Crown Cork and Seal). Brown of Lewes; 6 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.
In his younger years Joe was a bowler, hunter, golfer and he also enjoyed fishing and working in his wood shop. Upon his retirement he and his wife moved from Wilmington to Lewes. He was often heard to say "his greatest fun was the time he spent with his grandchildren". He taught them to crab, fish, clam and swim. He was a handy-man and continually updated and improve the home he provided for his family. He loved to tease his loved ones and tell stories to entertain. Probably the saddest thing in his life was his loss of hearing, as he missed so much, being the social person he was. Even when he developed cancer he took it in stride and lived a full independent life until his stroke which was his downfall.
Joseph married Florence Elizabeth Elliott, daughter of Samuel Webb Elliott and Martha Elizabeth Smack, on 15 Jan 1922 in Wilmington, New Castle Co., DE.1 (Florence Elizabeth Elliott was born on 17 Nov 1903 in Wilmington, New Castle Co., DE,2 3 died on 15 Feb 1997 in Lewes, Sussex Co., DE 1 and was buried about 17 Feb 1997 in Bethel Cemetery, Lewes, Sussex Co., DE.)
