'Joe' died January 2, 2000 at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes, DE. He was born to the late Alpha Wilbur Bryan of Seaford and Ethel Elena Wheatley Bryan of Wilmington. He had three sisters, Minnie Carter Scott, Mildred Elizabeth Fisher, and Fannie Alverta Hayman. Mr. Bryan retired in 1964 after 32 1/2 years as a plant supervisor for Continental Can Company (Crown Cork and Seal). He was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church and the Grand Lodge #1 IOOF, Wilmington, DE. He was predeceased by his wife, Florence Elizabeth Elliott Bryan, who he married January 15,1922 and his eldest daughter Anna Louise Charles both in 1997. He is survived by his daughter, Thelma E. Brown of Lewes; 6 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.

In his younger years Joe was a bowler, hunter, golfer and he also enjoyed fishing and working in his wood shop. Upon his retirement he and his wife moved from Wilmington to Lewes. He was often heard to say "his greatest fun was the time he spent with his grandchildren". He taught them to crab, fish, clam and swim. He was a handy-man and continually updated and improve the home he provided for his family. He loved to tease his loved ones and tell stories to entertain. Probably the saddest thing in his life was his loss of hearing, as he missed so much, being the social person he was. Even when he developed cancer he took it in stride and lived a full independent life until his stroke which was his downfall.
