Loving family man George Leland Hitch, 80, of Cathlamet died March 12, 2017, at the Hospice Care Center. He was born Feb. 25, 1937, in Evaline, Wash., to George and Lorena (Gorley) Hitch. George served in the Army, stationed in Germany. He earned his GED in the Army and attended college courses through Weyerhaeuser. George retired from Weyerhaeuser as a millwright after 32 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, boating, and camping. George had a lot of fun "B.S.ing" with friends and family. He was out-going and would give his shirt, and anything else, to someone in need. He was a good teacher to his sons-in-law and many others. He married his wife Patricia in Kelso Dec. 4, 1954. She survives him at home. Also surviving are three daughters, Patty Nakonsky (Randy) of Cathlamet, Cindy Nicholson (Jeff) of Longview and Billie Emerson (Carl) of Oak Harbor, Wash.; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, two in Longview and one in Oregon. George was preceded in death by his parents and two daughters, Lorena Gore and Teresa Hitch. A funeral service is planned for 11 a.m. Friday at Steele Chapel, officiated by Pastor Bob Giles Sr. A viewing is planned from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
