Vernon Kenneth Hitch, 82, of West Lafayette, died at 1:02 AM Friday, Jan. 23, 1987, in Lafayette Home Hospital, following a one-month illness. Born Sept. 18, 1904, at Evansville, he was reared there and lived in Akron, OH, from 1932 until coming to Lafayette in 1986. His marriage was in Lafayette on July 2, 1932, to Elizabeth Kirkpatrick, who died May 5, 1986. Mr. Hitch was executive vice president of Akron Chemical Company in Akron, OH, until his retirement in 1986. An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the Army Reserves until 1969, retiring as a lieutenant colonel. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, John Purdue Club, President's Council at Purdue University, Sigma Chi fraternity, Lafayette Rotary Club, American Chemical Society, Purdue Alumni Association, and Retired Officer's Association. Surviving are a daughter, Nancy (Mrs. Duane) Swearingen of Northbrook, IL; and two grandchildren.
