Citizens & Georgian - Montezuma, Ga. June 28, 1951 Every seat in every pew at the Montezuma Methodist Church was filled and many stood at the rear of the auditorium Sunday afternoon to hear the last rites said for a young woman who, by her simple courage and beauty of spirit and person, had, in her four years' residence here, made an ineradicable impression upon this community. Mrs. John H. Felton, the former Mary Lois Hitch, passed away last Friday at a Valdosta hospital, after an illness of two weeks. Although her family had been told that her span of life would be short, the end came with startling suddenness. She left, in addition to her husband, three small children, Beth 9, John 6, and Bill 4, all of Montezuma; her parents, the Rev. and Mrs. James W. Hitch and a sister, Mrs. Bennett Owens of Valdosta; and a brother. S. Herbert Hitch of Charlotte, N.C. Rev. Dr. Leonard H. Cochran of Columbus conducted the funeral service and burial was in Felton Cemetery. Pallbearers - not copied. Mary Lois Felton was born to missionary parents in Seoul, Korea on January 17, 1917. She was brought to the U.S. when 10. She married John H. Felton, youngest son of Judge and Mrs. Jule Felton of Montezuma, in Waycross on June 6, 1941. Many, many nice comments - not copied. Mary married John Howard Felton Sr., son of Jule Wimberly Felton and Mary Penelope Robinson, on 06 Jun 1941 in Waycross, Ware Co., GA.¹ (John Howard Felton Sr. was born on 25 Dec 1909,⁴ died on 12 Sep 1978 in GA ⁴ and was buried about 15 Sep 1978 in Felton Cemetery, Montezuma, Macon Co., GA.)
