bullet  Notes:

*NOT SURE OF THIS MAN'S PARENTAGE. I believe it near certain that he descends from the Christopher Hitch line of Maryland and Virginia but cannot prove how he connects at this point. Originally thought he might be the person Richard Truman Hitch, son of Trueman Hitch of that line. However, so little evidence from that line exists that the fact is elusive. This needs more research.

A minor breakthrough occurred when Steven Hitch sent me the following E-Mail on May 19, 2000:

Mike: Just got back from Frankfort Ky, Historical Societys Building. I only had 2 days and wanted to go to Barren Co. as while, so I only had 1 day to research my family. Thought I had it down to Clement Hitch being the father of Richard (Richmond). 1840 census of Barren Co. showed Clement as having 2 sons(males living with him) between 5 and 10 and 1 between 10 and 15. 1850 Hart Co. census showed a Richard Hitch as being 23 and a Stage Driver. That would fit for the son between 10 and 15. So I began trying to connect the 2. The next day on a whim I went back for an hour before I left for Barren Co. Pulled a book out on Barren Co. Court orders and in the index was Richmond Hitch. Page 78 Bowles suit filed on June 29 1850, against several families for money due from deceased parents. John Hitch deceased for less than 12 months was sued and his heirs Sons Richmond, Joseph And (I'll miss spell this as I don't have it in front of me) Medcelvin were listed as part of the suit. John Hitch was Richmond Hitchs Father. Spent all day researching the wrong guy. I didn't have time to confirm to much. There where at least 2 John Hitchs' in Kentucky at this time. I think you may be right in what you say in Melvin Hitch' info. He obviously isn't Clements son, maybe Clement was his Grandfather.I'll check your site and match what I found and see what else I can come up with. I'm going to have my local library see if they can borrow microfilmed newspapers from Barren Co. to see if Richmond Hitchs' obit is listed and if it gives his fathers name. Barren Co. was a bust, found nothing there yet. Sorry I'm such an Amatuer, but this was my first effort. I'll try and go back to Frankfort Ky again this summer. Let me know if any of this helps and what I may look for when I go back if you want. Steve Hitch
