Helen C. Hitch Obituary

BIG RAPIDS -- Memorial services for Helen C. Hitch, age 82, of Kerrville, who died Friday, June 12 at her home, will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 17, 1998 at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Kerrville, Texas where she has been a member since 1979. Helen Churchward Hitch, born Jan. 2, 1916, in Wichita, Kan. was the daughter of Marguerite Lehmann and Thomas P. Churchward. Helen graduated from Wichita State University earning her B.S. degree in Elementary Education. Early in her teaching career she met Robert L. Hitch from Burrton, Kan., and they were married on June 9, 1940, at St. James Episcopal Church in Wichita.

Helen lived with her husband and family in Kingman and Iola, Kan.; Fulton, Mo.; Jacksonville, Ill.; Laramie, Wyo.; and Big Rapids where she resumed her teaching career in the Reed City School system, before retiring to Kerrville. While in Kerrville, Helen was an active member of the St. Peter's Episcopal Church and Daughters of the American Revolution. She is survived by a daughter Margaret and Joseph Siemiantkowski of West Bloomfield; three sons Stephen and Patricia Hitch of Green Bay, Wis., Thomas and Ellen Hitch of Columbus, Ohio, and Charles and Elaine Hitch of Grosse Point; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Helen will be buried next to her husband Robert in the L.M. Hitch plot in the Burrton Township and City Cemetery, District One Harvey County, Kan. Memorials may be made to Family Hospice, 420 Water Street, Ste. 104, Kerrville, Texas 78028. Overby Funeral Home of Kerrville is handling the arrangements.

Helen married Dr. Robert Lee Hitch, son of Luttrell McNabb Hitch and Ruby Marie Johnson, on 09 Jun 1940 in St. James Episcopal Church, Wichita, Sedgwick Co., KS.^{1 2} (Dr. Robert Lee Hitch was born on 10 Jul 1914 in East Sweetwater, Monroe Co., TN,¹ died on 12 Feb 1997 in Kerrville, Kerr Co., TX ^{4 5} and was buried about 15 Feb 1997 in City Cemetery, Burrton, Harvey Co., KS.)
