In 1675, in Northampton County, VA, John and Hannah Panewell (Pennewell) sold the 95 acres north of the branch (Whitelaw Tract N26) to Joseph Warren and, two years later, 100 acres south of the branch to John Somers. In Jan 1677/78 he was shown as Jos Warren, age 35, in the court records and again in Nov 1680 as Jos Warren, age 38. On May 3 1688 he was shown as a brother-in-law Joseph Warren in the will of John Haggaman, mother Margaret Tomlinson. He also named my cozens (meaning nieces) Frances and Elizabeth, both daughters of Joseph Warren.
He wrote his will on Sep 20 1690 and it was proven in Northampton Co., VA on May 28 1691: Give to son Robert Warren that half of my land where I live. To son Joseph Warren the other half of my land. Remaining estate to be eq. div. by my wife and my daus. Frances and Elizabeth Warren. Wife Frances to be executrix. My brothers Henry and John Warren and Richard and Benjamin Nottingham to oversee the estate. Witnesses: William Gelding, Elizabeth 'E' Gelding, Benjamin Nottingham.
