Katie Hitch passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2025 as a result of a motor vehicle accident on her way to work in Hagerstown, MD. She had celebrated her 36th birthday on June 29th. She was super smart with a sassy and lovable personality that was contagious to anyone that ever met her. She received two undergraduate and a Master's Degree from Salisbury University focused in her chosen occupation of social work. She took on numerous and challenging assignments for the State of Maryland in Wicomico, Worcester, Somerset and Dorchester Counties on the eastern shore and at her current position in Hagerstown in Washington Co. She excelled in her field and received many accolades from her friends and colleagues as an extremely competent and compassionate manager, co-worker and friend. Her objective was always to make the world a better place for people that needed support and, in that regard, was a beautiful person inside and out. She loved animals in every form but especially her cats, who were like her children, and who will be adopted by her sister and nephews.

She is survived by a family who loved her very much including her very close sister, Leigh A. Johnson and her husband Bryan; and her parents Mike Hitch (Jenny Morris) and Janet Phillips and step father Bob. Additionally, she is survived by her grandparents Carroll and Eilene Hitch; her uncle Chris Hitch (Becky), aunt Teri Gregory (Tim) and nephews Colton and Parker Johnson and cousins Jason Hitch, Hailey DeMarzo & Emma and Peter Gregory. She was preceded in death by her baby brother Michael in 1993 who she adored. She was also preceded by her grandparents Warner and Janet Pope and uncle Chuck Pope. There will be no formal funeral but a memorial reception will be announced in the near future. Donations can be made to the Wicomico Humane Society where she volunteered at one time and adopted her cats.
