Mrs. Jeanette "Janet" Pope, 65, of Gaithersburg, died Monday, Jan. 17, at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital of cancer. She was the wife of the late Warner C. Pope, they were married for 33 years. Mrs. Pope was born in Tennessee and moved to Maryland when she was in her 20s. She was a longtime member of Epworth United Methodist Church. She had done elderly care in her home for more than 20 years before she became sick.
She is survived by a daughter, Janet Hitch and husband Michael of Bowie; a son, Charles Pope of Mount Airy; two granddaughters, Leigh and Kathleen Hitch of Bowie; three brothers; four sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Hitch, and two brothers. Friends may call at DeVol Funeral Home, 10 E. Deer Park Drive, Gaithersburg, Thursday, Jan. 20, from 10 to 11 a.m. Services will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Damascus Methodist Church Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Epworth United Methodist Church, 9008 Rosemont Drive, Gaithersburg, Md. 20877 or the American Cancer Society.
