Pearl Hitch Smith; April 11 1909 - March 16, 2012

Born Anna Pearl Hitch, Pearl Smith was born April 11, (Easter Sunday) 1909 in Jacksonville, NC. and died in Salisbury on March 16, 2012, surrounded by her loving family. She lived in Wilmington, DE from 1927 until 2011 when she joined her son Kenneth Smith and his wife, Ann, at their home in Salisbury, MD.

She is the daughter of the late Thomas H. & Elnora McGrath Hitch, and the loving and devoted wife of the late George H. Smith, who died March 8, 1974. She is loving mother of the late Emory L. Smith, who died 1967 and stepson George W. Smith, who died in 1999. She is survived by her devoted son Kenneth T. Smith & wife, Ann, of Salisbury, MD, and their daughters Deborah Smith Campbell, husband, Bill (Salisbury, MD), and Constance Smith Knipple and husband, Terry, (Johnstown, PA); grandsons Emory L Smith & wife, Robin(Middletown, DE); Scott Smith(Tampa, FL); and Wesley Smith & wife, Ann(Milton, FL).

She also leaves behind loving great grandchildren: Michelle Burley Clemente & husband, Nick (Willards, MD) Jessica Burley Pollmeier and husband Ben (Ocean City, MD), Steven Burley (Salisbury, MD), Billy Campbell (Salisbury, MD), Joshua Knipple & Travis Knipple (Johnstown, PA); Ethan Smith (Tampa, FL), Mark and Colin Smith; and favorite nieces, Connie Strott & husband, Chip (Salisbury); Jean Powell and husband, Doug (Delmar, MD);and Shirley Binsbacher along with several great, great grandchildren including Ivy Sirena Clemente and Lilly Elizabeth-Ann Pollmeier, with whom she shared a very special bond.

She was also preceded in death by brothers: Harold, Durand, Leroy, Dorsey, Goldsboro, and beloved niece, Thelma Harvey.

In addition to her family, she wished to remember her loving neighbors, Richard & Steven Howell and Claudia Hughes of Wilmington, DE.

She was a member of Peninsula McCabe Methodist Church for 86 years, and was a member of the Women's Society for Christian Service, American Leprosy Ministry, and Merchant Seaman's'. She was also an avid gardener and enjoyed knitting & crocheting for all of her family and friends.

Pearl wished to have her family, neighbors, friends, and her service to her church and its ministries remembered as essential and joyous parts of her life.

Funeral services will be held on March 27th at 11AM with a viewing March 26th, 6 till 8 PM.

Contributions in memory of Pearl can be made to Peninsula McCabe Church and Coastal Hospice.
