John Hitch

Mustered into the Army on July 20, 1846 to Co. A, Capt. W. L. Sanderson's 2nd Regiment Indiana Volunteers under Colonel William A. Bowles. He mustered out in June 1847 in New Orleans.

In the Federal Census of 1840, John Hitch is listed in Clark County, Indiana (page 259) in a household comprised of one male age 20-30, one female under age 5, one female age 10-15 and one female age 20-30.

In the Federal Census of 1850, John Hitch is listed in Clark County, Indiana (Silver Creek Township, page 25) in a household as follows: - John Hitch, age 37, born TN - Anna Hitch, age 33, born in IN - Nancy Hitch, age 12, born in IN - William Hitch, age 10, born in IN - Margaret Hitch, age 6, born in IN - George Hitch, age 4, born in IN - Mary A. Hitch, age 2, born in IN.

John married Anna Riggle, daughter of Michael Riggle and Dorcas (?), on 18 Aug 1838 in Clark Co., IN.¹ (Anna Riggle was born in 1815 in IN,^{3 5 6 7 8} died in 1898 in IN ⁵ and was buried in 1898 in Sellersburg Cemetery, Sellersburg, Clark Co., IN.)
