William was named as an heir on 25 November 1658 at Northampton Co, VA. It was on this date that the will of Col. Thomas Johnson, wife Jane, named William, John, Alie and Jane Major and gave them what is due them by their father's last will.. William was named in his brother's will on 6 May 1664 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as a brother William Major in the will of John Major. He and Andrew Finnie were to be overseers over what is left unto the children.
William was named as an heir on 29 April 1671 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that John, Margaret & Mary Major, children of William Major, were named in the will of John Dolby Sr. of Hungers Parish, N'hamp County. William was named in his brother's will on 20 November 1673 at Accomack Co, VA. He was shown as a brother (meaning step-brother) in the will of Richard Johnson, brother Obedience.
He inherited land before 1684 at tract A21, south side of Nandua Creek, Accomack Co., VA. In 1650 a Patent to John Major for 400 acres "on the south side of Great Nuswattocks River" (today's Nandua Creek). In 1664 John Major left to his cousin William Willer and to his brother Richard Johnson (N116), but in some way the title came into the possession of William Major, a brother. In 1684 the brother William left to his wife Mary and then to his son William the "Plantation at Skipper's Gut where I now live" and in 1730 he (wife Mary) left to his son Littleton Scarburgh Major. In 1767 he left to his grandson Littleton Major, who died intestate in 1781, leaving a widow Sarah and presumably a son William as his heir. In 1824 he left to his son William L. Major and in 1859 commissioners sold the house and 467 acres to Samuel Scherer.
He made a will before 3 June 1684 at Skippers Cut, Accomack Co., VA. In his undated will John Major gave to son John plantation at Occohannock. To son William plantation at Skippers Cut where I now live. To unborn child, to be named Rowles if a son, land adjacent that given my son William, if a daughter then my brothers John Rowles and Obe: Johnson to divide said land between my sons William and Peter. To son Peter land called Osborne Neck. To son Thomas 200 acres at Mattepeny. To daughter Alice. To daughter Mary. To wife Mary. Sons to be at age at 18 and daughters at age 16. Wife and children Extrs. Brothers Obedience Johnson and John Rowles to divide property. Witt: George Hislop, Alecksander Richards and John Mussay. William died before 3 June 1684. William married Mary Dalby, daughter of John Dalby and Margaret Drew. (Mary Dalby was born about 1645 in Ireland.)
