Hi Mike, sorry for the long delay in getting back to you. I received my info. on Eunice's death and marriage from genealogy.com <http://genealogy.com> (Whitty Victor born Delaware married Nancy Morris born Ohio) by Robert Livingston. He states that some of his info obtained from the Holy Bible of Elijah Victor Sr. and the rest from census records & death index.

I just found a Whitly Hatfield in Sussex DE wills and probate 1670-1971,dated 1788.10.3 Whitly Hatfield and wife Rhody. Below them was dated 1797.11.20, Mary Hatfield daughter of Elijah Hatfield who died intestate to Whittington Hitch. Mary Hatfield had a sister and three brothers. On the other page under wills lists William Hatfield 1792.3.27, to son John, to son Whitly, to son Jonathon, to wife Margart. What does intestate mean? Is it spelled correctly? Possibly two sources for the name Whitly? Elijah and William Brothers? You may have this record already but thought I would pass it on anyway.

By the way I purchased your book, Adam Hitch of old Somerset, several months ago hoping to find Eunice Hitch, l can appreciate all the work you did to put this wonderful book together, truly amazing.
Regards,
Kathy Ball

Hi Kathy, it's good to hear from another cousin! It was very hard finding ANY info about Whittington Hitch. And then I got a bit lucky with the Sussex Guardian and Tax Assessment records. They filled some answers, including his wife's name and family, but added more questions too.

I was especially interested in how he got his name and speculate it probably came from his mother or grandmother's maiden name. Still no proof there.

I am excited to see you have placed a name on one of their daughters too! Whitty Hitch definitely had a sister Eunice and it would be likely for him to name a daughter the same. Couple this with her naming a son Whitty and living very close to the Victors and that is very good circumstantial proof! The likelihood of Eunice fitting into this family in my opinion is very, very high. I am placing her here in my records.

If you look at the 1800 census, it shows two females under age 10. Put this together with the two in 1810 aged 16-26 and you can narrow their birth years to the range 1790-1794. So Eunice is probably in that range and that matches well with her marrying in 1811. I think this might change my thinking on Delilah's birth year from c1760 to c1765-1770 now too. Plus I noticed in my notes that I originally speculated Delilah's father as Lisha Hatfield (Elisha, Elijah in some records) and that was proven in the guardian records.

How did you get Eunice's death date as 1827? Are there bible records? How about the marriage date...were you able to find marriage records? Do you have any info on the other daughter? I would love to see more of your work! This is exciting, I am going to relook at some of this line as I have not worked on it for years now!

Thanks again for writing and please let me know more when you can.

Regards,
Mike Hitch

Subject: Hitch family

Hello my name is Kathy Ball, in searching my Hitch family I came across your research. I am a descendant of WHITTY VICTOR born Feb 1818 in Dover, DE. His parents were ELIJAH VICTOR born 1785 in Maryland and EUNICE HITCH of Essex Co. DE. ELIJAH and EUNICE were married Feb. 1811. I have EUNICE'S death date as Oct. 22, 1827
The 1810 census has WHITTINGTON HITCH living in Bridgeville, Sussex, DE, listing 2 daughters between ages 16-25 I'm wondering if one could be EUNICE.
Another 1810 census has ELIJAH'S parents (MAJOR VICTOR) living in Bridgeville also.
ELIJAH and EUNICE'S children were NANCY, DANIEL. MARY, WHITTY, WILLIAM, ELVIRA and UNICY.
I purchased your book ADAM HITCH of Maryland hoping to find my EUNICE in it, but I didn't. I did see where WHITTINGTON had a sister EUNICE. Great book by the way.
My best guess is WHITTINGTON and DELILAH are her parents due to the similarities, but no proof. Do you know anything about this EUNICE HITCH born around 1785-1791?

Sincerely,
Kathy Ball
