From "A Hitch Orchard," Daisy Hitch Davies, 1931: "Orville Hitch applied for enlistment in the Marine Corps on April 16, 1917 at Port Royal Sound, SC. He served with the American Expeditionary Forces in France, and was honorably discharged October 22, 1918, at Washington, D.C., a private with character "Excellent" upon a report of medical survey for disability. Orville was severely wounded in World War I and given up to die. He recovered finally but it was a very long time before recovery was complete. He was a member of the First Christian Church and resided in Rosenberg, TX (1931)."
