From "A Hitch Orchard," Daisy Hitch Davies, 1931: "Oliver Morton Hitch was educated at Patoka, Princeton and rural schools in Gibson Co., IN. He went to work as delivery boy at the Princeton Meat Market as soon as he finished school. In a short time he was working in the shop learning the meat cutters trade. He learned the meat business from every angle. At the age of eighteen, he was operating a meat market of his own at Princeton, IN. A little later with his brothers, Allen and Horace, he entered into a partnership as HITCH BROTHERS who conducted a wholesale and retail meat business. Morton is still connected with this business as senior member with Theodore and Austin Hitch, his brothers, as partners. Horace and Allen long since left Princeton, IN.

Morton is known as one of the best cattle and hog buyers in southern Indiana. Aside from his brothers, Morton has taken a keen interest in musical work. He has a splendid baritone voice and is a member of the Hoosier Male Quartet, a well known musical organization in southern Indiana. For some time he was director of the choir of the First Christian Church, Princeton, IN, but this work proved too much to carry with his other duties and he gave it up.

He is a splendid reader and has a large repertoire, composed largely of the works of James Whitcomb Riley. He is a popular radio entertainer and has often broadcast over St. Louis, Louisville, and Evansville radio stations. His brother Allen writes, "I think one of my greatest thrills was when he recited from Louisville for me, "Out to Old Aunt Mary's", I being in Wisconsin at the time."

He is short and well built, a Republican and a member of the Christian Church. He is a Mason, Chapter, Commandery and Shriner. (By a member of the family.)"
