James Travers Daniel lived his entire live in Wenona cultivating his 20 acre farm. From the book "Portrait and Biographical Record of the Eastorn Shore", 1898, we note that he was also engaged in the mercantile business in his store in the Wenona Post Office area. He was described as adapting to the needs of the people of the section and was interested in their welfare. He maintained a warm interest in prohibition and served as a Judge of the Orphans Court from 1876-1880. He was nominated for both the Legislature and State Senate but declined both nominations. He received his basic education on Deal Island and at the age of eighteen, entered Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA in 1848. He did not graduate, but made a good record for the two years of attendance. In his fraternal relations, he identified himself with the Heptasophs. He was a member of the M.E. Church of which he was a Steward and Trustee, and was a local preacher for fifteen years or more. He married twice, first to Louise Row on 6 Jan 1855, and after her death to Elizabeth Andrews. Mrs. Nellie Wallace Armstrong who was 10 years of age at the time of his death in 1902 described him as a very fine man.
