James Daniel Jr was prominent in public life having served as a Lieutenant in the North Carolina Militia, Wade's Company 9th. Regiment, Colonel John Williams Commanding, from 28 November 1776 to November 1777. Upon his return to civilian life and while establishing his family, he continued as a public servant. From the Salisbury Court Records of Rowan County, North Carolina, we find on pg. 350 that James was appointed Collector in Rowan County on 8 February 1782, on pg. 376 it shows that he was appointed Collector for Captain Runnion's Company 4 February 1784, and on pg. 558 it shows James was Justice of the Peace in the Inferior Court on 24 May 1800. The State granted him 30 shillings and 100 acres. James Daniel died at High Rock, North Carolina 11 February 1817. His son Woodson and an Alexander Shamwell were administrators for his estate for which a 800 Pound bond was placed. Based on information which we were able to collect from present day residents of the area, he was buried in a private plot on his property, which has since been cultivated over.
James married Rebecca Travers. (Rebecca Travers was born in 1756 and died on 21 Oct 1815 in Davidson Co., NC.)
