On Jun 20 1671, for the tract Taunton Deane, Somerset Co., Francis Roberts and wife Rosanna sold this 300 acre tract to Benjamin Cottman. (SoLR-SC:051) It was about this time that Benjamin Cottman and his wife Mary immigrated into Maryland from Northumberland Co., VA. He had bought tract Taunton Deane on the south side of the Wicomico Creek two years earlier and acquired other lands on both sides of Wicomico Creek. He had married Mary Thomas, daughter of William and Elizabeth Thomas of Northumberland Co, VA. They sold some of his land on Jun 5 1677 as Benjamin Cottman and wife Mary Cottman sold 50 acres of this tract to Richard Kimball, (called Kimballs Purchase in this instance).

He was shown as Benjamin Cottman who was on a grand jury along with Levin Denwood, Richard Ackworth, Cornelius Johnson, John Bossman, James Dasheill, Tho: Covington and others on Mar 12 1671/72 .

The tract Wrington (200a) had been surveyed for Samuel Simms on Nov 29 1672 and he left it to his sold legatee Benjamin Cottman in his will written Jun 5 1682 and proven in Somerset on Apr 12 1687 (SoW-EB5:162). The Rent Rolls of 1666-1723 showed it possessed by Benjamin Nesham by marrying the widow of Benjamin Cottman.

He received a land patentfor the tract CHANCE on Oct 2 1677 for 500 acres; it was patented by John White who assigned to Benjamin Cottman. On Nov 12 1684, Benjamin Cottman, planter, et uxor Mary Cottman sold 300a of this tract to John Booth and on May 30 1685, he sold the other 200a to William Rhodulphus. (SoLR-MA:721, 749)
