Helen Elizabeth Mount
Helen Elizabeth Hitch (Mount) was born July 15, 1924, to Joseph Raymond Mount and Cecile Louise Chamberlin Mount in Jackson, Michigan. She was a 1941 graduate of Jackson High School, and received an Associate's Degree from Jackson Junior College in 1943. On June 1946, she married Jack Vernon Hitch at the First Baptist Church in Jackson. She Passed away peacefully on November 21, 2022, at the Ganton facility in Jackson. Helen and Jack lived in Jackson, Michigan; Sandusky, Ohio; Saginaw, Michigan; and Flint, Michigan, before returning to Jackson and made life-long friends everywhere. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, and playing cards (sometimes for money), and loved the conviviality of being with her family (the extended family, including the Preston family) and those friends. Helen especially enjoyed time at the cottage on Larks Lake, and winters in Florida. She was a long-time member of Junior Dorcas, the Jackson Woman's Club, and First Baptist Church. Surviving are her three sons, Thomas (Linda), of Petoskey, Michigan; Richard (Mary), of Jackson, Michigan; and Daniel (Deborah) of North Platte, Nebraska. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and all of her siblings, Florence Simmons (Jacob Lester); Howard Mount; Lewis (Margaret) Mount; Ruth Mount; Margaret Preston (James Ward); and Winifred Mills (William Wilbur); Also, by daughter-in-law, Celia Ann Hitch. Helen married Jack Vernon Hitch, son of Thomas Benton Hitch and Maude Ethel Langdon. (Jack Vernon Hitch was born on 17 Oct 1922 in Calhoun Co., MI, died on 06 Aug 2013 in Jackson Co., MI and was buried about 09 Aug 2013 in Fort Custer National Cemetery, Kalamazoo Co., MI.) |
