George Collier
- Born: 17 Mar 1796, Worcester Co., MD
- Died: 18 Jul 1852, St. Louis Co., MO
George Collier of Peter, age 2, was assigned guardian Catherine Collier on Dec 4 1798 (WoOCP-LH8:164)
Born Maryland, George and his brother, John, traveled in 1815 with their widowed mother finally settling in St. Charles. He married Frances Euphraise Morrison in 1826. After her death 30 August 1835, he married Sarah Ann Bell in 1838. An early benefactor of St. Charles College, and a wealthy merchant and banker of St. Louis, George Collier died in St. Louis at the age of 65 years, four months, and one day. Bellefontaine Cemetery Legend reports burial 20 July 1852, therefore, specific death date not confirmed. George Collier's brother, John, died unmarried May 18, 1821, at St. Charles, aged 29 years (Annals of St. Louis in its territorial days, from 1804 to 1821; being a continuation of the author's previous work, the Annals of the French and Spanish period). A slightly different account appears in The Annals of St. Louis. Son of Peter Collier and Catherine, George Collier was sent to school in Philadelphia, thereafter joining his brother and mother in St. Charles, MO, in 1818. His second marriage was to Miss Sarah A. Bell, the eldest daughter of merchant William Bell, 1838 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
