Salisbury - Deitra Hales, of Salisbury, went home to be with the Lord on December 24, 2018. She was at peace and surrounded by her loving family. Born in Sharptown, Dee was the daughter of the late Bill & Isabelle Johnson. She is survived by her loving husband, Donald Hales; her daughter and her husband, Tanya & Adam Westhoff; her sister Judy Rogers and her husband Bruce; her niece Katie Harper and husband Todd; 2 step-daughters and their husbands, Kim & Martin Harrison and Karen & Joe Houtman; and 1 step-son and his wife, Will & Candice Hales. Dee was an adoring grandmother to Sydney Shannon, Brooklin Westhoff, Adam & Mallory Harrison, and Matthew & Conner Houtman. Dee was She was also a loving great-niece and nephew Natalie & Nathan Harper.
Dee was the cornerstone of her family and a testament to what a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend should be. She committed her life to selflessly serving her family, friends, church, and most importantly, the Lord. All of her days were spent finding ways to teach, love, help, and bless others. Dee was a devoted Kindergarten teacher at at Northwestern Elementary School for 34 years, and she was an active member at both Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church and St. Andrew's United Methodist Church. Dee touched the lives of all who knew her. She was an angel to many, and will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by all. Although her last few years were riddled with battling cancer, Dee never let it defeat her. With her faith, trust and hope in the Lord, she has ultimately won the final battle.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, December 29th at 11:00 am at the Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, in Sharptown, MD. A viewing will be held Friday, December 28th from 4:00 pm-7:00 pm at Holloway's Funeral Home in Salisbury, MD one hour prior to the service at the church. The Rev. Gary Tulak will officiate the service. Internment will be in the Sharptown Fireman's Cemetery immediately following the service.
Dietra married Donald Hales, son of Reuben Lester Hales and Ethel Maude Pusey. (Donald Hales was born in 1939 in Wicomico Co., MD.)
