William Taylor

William Taylor died before Sep 15 1696 in Accomack Co., VA as, on this date, his estate was administered to Bridget Taylor, widow of said William. William Parker & Elias Taylor securities. Upon the motion of Bridget Taylor (widow of William Taylor), it was ordered that Nicholas Millechop, John Watts, Thomas Perry, Joseph Stockley, George Hope (or any four of them) be sworn to inventory and appraise Taylor's estate before the next court. The administration of the estate was filed on Dec 8 1697 and monies from Bridget Taylor his wife was granted to Elias Taylor, brother of the said William, for the use of their 6 children with Timothy Coe & Samuel Taylor securities. The estate was settled on Jan 3 1699/1700 where we see "at the last court it was ordered that the sheriff take Mr. John Custis into custody till he posted security to swear at this court to an account of the estate of William Taylor, deceased." The sheriff (Capt. Thomas Welburne) had returned an endorsed copy of the order, declaring that he had summoned Custis to this court to answer, with Capt. Henry Custis assuming to be security. Mr. Tully Robinson (attorney for Elias Taylor), objected to this, saying that the sheriff should have taken security from Custis himself. Since the sheriff had failed to perform according to the order, the case was continued to the next court. Welburne was ordered to perform the contents of the order or be answerable for damages.

William married Bridget Rackliffe, daughter of Charles Rackliffe and Elizabeth (?), about 1680 in Accomack Co., VA. (Bridget Rackliffe was born about 1661 in Accomack Co., VA and died before 08 Dec 1697 in Accomack Co., VA.)
