Elijah Chance I bought land in 1745 in Accomack Co, VA, 80a of Whitelaw numbered tract A48 between Keller and Wachapreague from his brother William Chance and, in 1751, he bought 80a more in the same location. He sold 40a of land in 1757 in Accomack Co, VA of the same tract to Spencer Coleburn and in 1774 he and wife Leah Chance sold Coleburn 8 more acres.

29 Mar 1768; Nocks Branch, St. George Parish, Accomack Co, VA:
Elijah Chance (wife Leah) and Henry Heath (wife Nelly) sold to John Coleburn for 100 pounds current money of Virginia a certain Water Mill situated on a Branch or Run of Water called Nocks Branch in the parish of St. George in the County of Accomack, which was late built and erected by the said Chance & Heath together with the acre condemned on the opposite side of the stream according to the Direction of the Act of Assembly, will full and free privilege of getting digging and carrying away dirt from the said Chance's land for the support of the said Mill and also together with the Mill house, Mill-stones Damand all other privileges and appurtenances unto the said Mill. Witnessed by: Ezekeil Tunnel, Henry Davis & Spencer Bagwell.
(NOTE: Henry Heath's wife is shown as Nelly throughout the deed in several places not abstracted above, but as Jane when the deed was signed. Of course, this is the Clerk's version of the deed he copied into the county ledger book.)

Elijah Chance wrote his will on Oct 28 1774 and it was proven on Jan 31 1775 in Accomack Co., VA. - To wife plantation where I now dwell during her widow to bring up my children & then to my son Elijah Chance.
- To daughter Nanney chest that was my mother's.
- Daughters Nanney, Fanny & Patience Chance residual legatees. Spencer Coleburn Exr. Witnesses: Littleton Wyatt, Jr., Meshack Watson, Arthur Trader. Leah Chance, widow, relinquished her right and Spencer Coleburn qualified (AccVAW-1772/77:289). By Jun 30 1784, it was still unadministered by Spencer Coleburn, so it was granted to Arthur Teackle with George Corbin offering security.
