John Edward Hamilton FRUITLAND-John Edward Hamilton, 89, of Fruitland passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2014 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake. Born in Capeville, VA, he was the son of the late William Edward and Lois Francis Barcroft Hamilton. John was a U.S. Army/Air Corp veteran serving in Italy during World War II. He worked at several occupations over the years, but the job he enjoyed the most was his work at Holly Center, where he worked in maintenance and fabricated wheelchair modifications and adaptive devices for the resident's. After retiring from Holly Center he continued to volunteer there. He was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Fruitland where he had served as Deacon, Sunday School teacher, trustee and anything that was asked of him to do. He also, along with his wife Dot, had been instrumental in maintaining the churches food closet. John and Dot were recipients of the 2006 Jefferson Award for all of their volunteer work. John was a "Jack of all trades" and could do just about anything. Whenever anyone needed him to do anything, he would be there, never telling anyone "No". He is survived by two daughters: grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and many special family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dot Hamilton; a daughter, Marsha Dunn; and sister, Lena Young. A celebration of John's life will be held Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 1:00 pm at Holloway Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be Monday, February 10, 2014 at the Eastern Shore of Maryland Veterans Cemetery near Hurlock. Published in The Daily Times on Feb. 5, 2014
