ACCIDENT. Mr. Stephen Pollitt, gentleman about 70 years of age, met with an accident which terminated his life. He went to the woods to cut some timber. On finding a large tree which had been blown down by the recent storm, he measured up a long stock of timber, and commenced cutting off the top end, before he cut it off at the ground, and when it was cut off, the stump end fell back in its place, causing the top end to go up with great force, throwing Mr. Pollitt high up in the air, falling with great force upon the ground. He was for a time insensible. He was carried home, and lingered from Saturday till Monday evening, at which time he died. He was highly respected, and an active man for his years. Salisbury Advertiser Oct 7 1876.
Stephen married Lydia Ann Reddish, daughter of John Reddish and Elizabeth Goddard, on 27 Jun 1832 in Worcester Co., MD. (Lydia Ann Reddish was born in 1815-1816 in MD and died after 1870 in Wicomico Co., MD.)
